How to Remove Red Wine Stains
For many, there’s nothing more relaxing than having a glass of red wine with dinner. One wrong move though and a stain can easily occur. Luckily, removing red wine is relatively easy if you get to the stain before it has had a chance to set. Here’s how to do it.
Types of Red Wine Stains
There are many different varieties of red wine, including Syrah, Shiraz, Merlot, Carbernet, Malbec, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel and Rose. No matter which type of wine you’ve chosen to pair with your pasta dishes, steak dinner or hors d’oeuvres, an accidental spill will lead to a sinking stain.
Remove Red Wine Stains: Step by Step
- Choose the Dynamo Professional detergent and Sard Wonder stain remover you need based on the type of laundry.
- Treat the stain as quickly as possible and avoid rubbing it
- Wash in the hottest temperature possible for the fabric
- Check to see if the stain is gone
Pick a Detergent and Red-Wine Stain Remover
Choose Dynamo Professional liquid detergents.
Choose a detergent and stain remover that will work well at getting rid of the red wine, like Dynamo Professional Liquid.
Check the care label to make sure the fabric is washable and allows oxygen bleach, if so the use of Sard Wonder Super Power Spray or Sard Wonder Super Power Powder is worthwhile.
Pre-Treat the Stain Quickly
Red wine sets in fast, so when you spill it, make sure you pre-treat it as quickly as possible. To do this, grab the paper towels and ‘lift’ as much of the wine off your clothing or homeware as possible. Never rub it; this will only make the stain worse. Once you’ve removed as much as you can, apply the Sard Wonder Super Power Spray to the red wine stain, wait a short time (up to 10 minutes) to let the spray soak.
Wash the Fabric
After pre-treating the stain, wash the fabric in the hottest water temperature possible with your selected Dynamo Professional detergent. To boost the stain removal performance on stubborn red wine stains it is advisable to use Sard Wonder Super Power Powder together with your detergent. Check the label on the fabric to see what temperature is best.
Check the Stain
These removal methods may not work completely the first time, so be sure to check the clothing after it is finished washing. Do not put the fabric in the dryer until the stain is completely removed as this will set the stain. If the stain is still present, soak the garment for 1 to 2 hours in a wash solution comprising your selected Dynamo Professional detergent and Sard Wonder Super Power Powder.
Remove Red Wine Stains From Special Laundry Types and Fabrics
If you want to remove red wine from tablecloths, jeans, leather couches or any other type of fabric or homeware, following the steps above will work for most fabrics. For garments and homeware that are not machine washable, rinse the stain remover thoroughly and let air dry.
Delicate fabrics, like silk, leather, wool and suede may not be suitable for machine washing. Hand wash instead with a sensitive detergent.
Remove Red Wine Stains From White Clothes and Homeware
Red and white don’t mix, so if you have white clothes or homeware that have become saturated from a red wine spill it’s important to act as quickly as you can to remove it. Follow the same steps as above for getting rid of stains on a white shirt, pants, jeans or any other type of fabric.
Removing Old or Dried Red Wine
If your clothing or homeware has an old, dried red wine stain, or you didn’t notice the stain until after you had washed or dried the clothing, do not despair. There are still steps you can take to remove old wine or remove red wine stains after washing.
The first thing you want to do is soak the fabric for a few hours in a warm wash solution comprising your selected Dynamo Professional detergent and Sard Wonder Super Power Powder.
Then, pre-treat the area with. Sard Wonder Super Power Spray.
Rub the stain remover into the stain gently and let it sit for approximately 30 minutes.
Then wash the fabric at the hottest water temperature possible with your selected Dynamo Professional detergent. If the stain is still present, repeat the steps.
Natural Stain Removers for Red Wine
We’re often told that natural stain removers or homemade stain removers are ideal solutions for removing stains. In the case of red wine, and in most other stains, natural options are not the best. Not only do most, like club soda and salt, take extra time and effort, but they may not work. Others, like hydrogen peroxide can damage the colour of your clothing. Stick to Dynamo Professional detergent and Sard Wonder stain remover; it was made for this job.
